Atma Jyoti Ashram is a Spiritual Institution. It is devoted to spread the teaching of Sanatana Dharma as per the Guide lines of Upnishadas, the Bhagwat Gita and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.It plays a major role in the practice of Om Yoga.

The concept revolving around the teachins of Atma Jyoti Ashram is of Sanatan Dharma - the Eternal religion. There has been a number of Preachers of Sanatana Dharma, but the main ideology comes from Ancient Indian Upnishadas.

Sankara - the Non - dual Philospher and founder - reformer of the Ancient Swami Order born before Christ, is the founder of Sanatana Dharma. According to him, Sannayasa - the casting aside, is the way of renunciation. His followers preach the same in different ways. Meditation and enlightment arising from Meditation is the main ideology of Atma Jyoti Ashram.

The Ashram

The Ashram is wholly and solely devoted to the practice and teaching of Santana Dharma. It os also a place for living a traditional Hindu Monastic Life. A day in the Ashram Goes like this -
  • Meditating for four hours each day.
  • Studying and learning Spirituality in the form of Studies. No ritualistic worship is performed in this procedure.
  • Having Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner which is purely vegetarian. Non Vegetarian Food in any form and Hard Drinks are abstained from.
  • Each member of the Ashram is assigned a particular work which one- the Sanyasi, is supposed to carry out in full co - ordination.
  • Life attached to Nature is carried out away from the technological World.

*Apart from this, there is no membership fee. People from all Sects are welcome to join this Culture when and as per their wish. However donations and other givings are a part of Ashram Life.

The Concept/Ideology

Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism is the Concept which aroused out of eleven main Hindu texts - namely - Isha, Kena, Katha, Prashna, Mundaka, Taittiriya, Aitaryeya, Chandogya, Brihadaranyaka and Savetashvatara Upnishadas. (Upnishadas meaning something learnt by hearing the sayings of the Gurus or the Learned Men and Women. Later on Bhagwat Gita written by Vyasa, came out as the digest of these above mentioned Upnishadas).

In Atma Jyoti Ashram the concept of Om Yoga is emphasized from. Om Yoga is the way of freedom from suffering and limitation. Its a procedure of self awakening. For achieving this the concept of Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are used. Collectively, the Atma Jyoti that is the Light of the Spirit is awakened and Self Realization is achieved by concentrating on the SYLLABLE - OM, which is a supposed to contain the world of Brahma - the Creator of the Universe. The Syllable OM has as such no meaning in literal terms, but the positive effect which it has on the body and mind - physically and psychologically - is of utmost importance. The Entire Concept is on Meditation. The words and teachings of Upnishadas add to refine and enlighten the thought process of human beings. Meditation and its practice is the main object.

The Concept of OM Yoga

If you can sit Upright and sit cross legged for few minutes, then you have achieved the first level of Om Yoga. This is also the position of Meditation. And why do we insist upon sitting upright in Meditation - for two main reasons - that we don't fall asleep and secondly to facilitate the upward movement of the subtle life force called Prana. There should be no pain and only relaxation. For Cross legged sitting there are a number of postures recommended - Lotus, Padmasana, Siddhasana, Swastikasana and Sukhasana. Taking long breath while chanting ut OM several times, makes for the final stage of Meditation.

Our Suggestions
  • Life of an Ashram is sedentary one. So when you are here maintain the silence and the decorum.
  • Be dressed decently - preferably body should be fully covered. Avoid Starking Colorsand do not play any kind of Loud and Nasty Music.
  • If you wish to be a member of the Atma Jyoti Ashram, then ask for the lifestyle of Ashram and the way you will have to live there in detail. Don't cut it short. Take your time - be it weeks, before joining. You can also ask to stay in the Asharam for a few days to have a feel of the environment, before joining the Ashram.
  • Be clear in asking your role in the Ashram. Ask them if you can leave the Ashram after joining, if you wish so.
  • Some Ashrams do not entertain married couples to join; others have no objection to it. Make it clear at the entry point itself.
  • Ask if you will be free to meet you family members or vice - versa, as per your wish. If not so, then what is the duration when you can meet them.
  • Most of the Ashrams serve Vegetarian Food - be sure you want to become a Vegetarian.
  • Some Ashrams have membership fee, some don't. Be Clear about the Membership Fee at the first place.
